To determine the year of production of your Toro mower, first, do a Toro serial number lookup. Most mowers will include a serial number that consists of the brand, model, and date of manufacture.
Various machines' serial and model numbers can be found at different locations. Please keep reading to learn how to locate your Toro mower's serial number, read the manufactured year from the serial number, and determine the age of your mower simply by looking at it. Let's begin!
Your mower's serial number (either XXX,XXX or XXX,XXX,XXX) can be found on the model and serial number plate mounted on your equipment. Serial number plate mounting location varies from mower to mower. If you cannot find your serial number plate, please consult your owners manual (typically on page 3) for location help.
Your John Deere tractor vehicle identification number is also known as a product identification number, serial number or lawn mower identification number. These 13 to 17 letters and numbers can provide important information about your tractor, such as the year it was made, where the engine was manufactured, its emission levels, its security code and its transmission designation. In addition, each serial number is unique to a specific mower, and can be used to track and identify your machine.
Identify the first two letters or numbers in a 13-symbol VIN or the first three letters or numbers in a 17-symbol VIN; this is the factory code (also known as engine manufacturer). For instance, in the John Deere VIN CD6068G123456, CD is the factory code, and mowers with the factory code CD were manufactured Saran, France.
Identify the next four letters and numbers after the factory code, which will be positions three to six in a 13-symbol VIN, or positions four to seven in a 17-symbol VIN. This is the model number. For instance, in the John Deere VIN CD6068G123456, 6068 is the model number.
Identify the last six letters and numbers in a 13-symbol VIN or the last five digits in a 17-symbol VIN. This is the serial number and is unique to your specific tractor. The serial number can be used to track and identify individual John Deere tractors.
Identify the letter and numbers in positions nine through 12 in a 17-symbol VIN. In order, these identify the security code, calender year of manufacture, transmission code, and wheel or track designation. The calender year of manufacture will be denoted by an A for 2010, B for 2011 and so on. The transmission code will be denoted with an A, C, D, E, H, P or R. The wheel or track designation will denote a 0 for wheel or a 9 for track. VINs with 13 letters and numbers do not include this information.
For information regarding older John Deere tractors with codes that have five or six numbers and letters, visit your local John Deere dealership or contact John Deere through its online customer service form.
Your model and serial number are needed to find the correct parts for your machine. This information can be found on a silver plate on your machine. The model number is 5 or 6 digits long and most serial numbers are 9 digits long (serial numbers starting with 89 or 99 are shorter). The first 3 digits of your serial number indicate what year your machine was built. Serial number starting with 89 was made in the 1998, 99 made in 1999, 20 made in 2000, 21 made in 2001, 22 made in 2002, 23 made in 2003, 24 made in 2004, 25 made in 2005, 26 made in 2006, 27 made in 2007, 28 made in 2008, 29 made in 2009, 310 made in 2010, 311 made in 2011, 312 made in 2012, 313 made in 2013, 314 made in 2014, 315 made in 2015, and 316 made in 2016.
In the year 2017 and after serial numbers changed and were comprised of nine digits that started with a 4. Every model would have the first unit made with a serial number of 400000001 and the next machine made of that model would have serial number 400000002 and so on. The year a Toro Dingo is made is not reflected in Toro Dingos with serial numbers that start with a 4. 076b4e4f54
